Lions Grab Late Win at Philadelphia Lonestar
Philadelphia, PA – AFC Lancaster Lions pulled out a late win on a stormy night in south Philadelphia, edging Philadelphia Lonestar 3-2. The Lions first win in regulation comes courtesy of Isaac Hollinger’s 90th minute winner.
The lions started the game off on the offensive playing much of the game in Lonestars half with a few great chances careening just off target. The deadlock was broken 20 minutes into the first half when Isaac Hollinger calmly finished off a great spell of offensive possession for his first goal of the season putting the Lions up 1-0. The home side quickly found an equalizer however bringing the score to 1-1. It wasn’t until late in the first half that the lions were able to find a second when Ugo Okolie danced around 3 defenders and was brought down in the box. Matt Kinney scored from the spot for his second goal of the season seeing the lions go into halftime with the 2-1 lead.
The second half began much the same with the lions putting pressure on the home side until lightning delayed the game for an hour. Upon restart, the lions saw an increase in pressure from Lonestar and conceded a penalty of their own. Goalkeeper CJ DeMarsico was up to the challenge and came up with a huge penalty save. However, a few minutes later the home side found an equalizer again. The lions upped the pressure and saw chance after chance come their way with none falling our way. Finally, after 90 minutes of play Isaac Hollinger got a hold of a clearance at midfield and made a darting run beating defender after defender. He took a touch wide of the keeper and slotted home into an empty net at a tight angle to give us a 3-2 victory.
